Graphic Design is...

Graphic Design is... an Idea made into a visual with the use of colour, typography, and grid structures.

My Design Process

When first receiving a new assignment, I go over the brief and a lot of ideas will  pop into my head. Ill joint them down and scribble some images but then I leave it alone for a day or two and let it sit in the back of my head. When it comes to starting the initial assignment, I start  with research and looking for some inspiration by going on google and stumbleupon. Then I create a few thumbnails and jump right into the rough digital. If and when I hit a roadblock, I leave it alone for a bit, try to forget about it. I will go hit the gym, or just go to a bar and ideas will just start coming out of no where. This is where a napkin or a water bottle label becomes very handy. This is the process I go through when I design.

What about me?

My Name is Brittany Dasilva and I am the blogger. I am currently a student of Humber college for the 3 year graphic design program. I have gained experience through my high school education by taking a Co-op course in grade 11, which  lead me on this career path. I received a placement at Newbury NG Design firm in Toronto, as a Junior Graphic Designer and Assistant. I gained valuable experience that allowed me to improve my skills and understanding of client’s expectations, advertising, picture modification, and design.

I am able to effectively combine my artistic and creative problem-solving skills to produce designs and advertisement campaigns that meet the client’s specifications. I am able to use Mac OSX to produce: print campaigns, direct mail, logos, corporate branding, poster designs, editorial designs, book designs and web designs. I have created several pieces of material for a variety of companies for different campaigns, some were even published for NOW magazine. I am currently in semester 4 of the program and as an assignment for contemporary design theory, we must create a creative blog. So this is it and I hope you enjoy it.
