Marion Bantjes, Bruce Mau, Stefan Bucher, Stefan Sagmeister
The commonalities between these four designers are the passion for what they do and the determination they have to differentiate themselves for others and create theyre own style. They say you should love what you do and learn how to make your work fun for you. All of these designers also always put there own twist into the designers they create, a few of them also combine art with there designs. Listening to all of these designers has made me questioning what my style is as a designer. I agreed with their design philosophy about making your work you and fun. These designers have influenced me to strive to be different and break the rules.

Letter to Stefan Bucher
Dear Stefan Bucher,
I just recently watched your Make | Think video in my contemporary design theory class and I really enjoyed it, I found it inspirational and fresh. Before this video I had stumbled upon your daily monsters before and though it was brilliant, I never knew if was your work till the video. Im glad I got to find out more about you and how you go through a design process.
It was very enjoyable and entertaining to watch you present, you talked with great confidence and a sense of humor. By watching your presentation you have showed be the right way to present my work.
I really admire your passion for you work, how to search for ways to be different, and you find ways for your work to be easier and comfortable for you. For me, I wouldn't be able to work for myself, I think maybe over time and experience it could be an option but I enjoy interacting with clients and going to a work environment. Throughout your presentation you opened up a lot of questions for me that I must think of when I enter the field.
But I want to thank you for being one of those designers that are still passionate in what they do, and it reflects in your work. You have given me a lot of inspiration to succeed and carry on with designing. There are still a lot of things I need to discover for myself as a designer.

Cultural Zeitgeist
Chevy's superbowl ad was chosen as ad of the day on Adweek.
The Target markets include drivers mainly young adult males and fans of transformers. It reflects our current culture because they took pop culture and incorporated it with their ads. "Dont mess with a chevy." Bumblebee is a chevy transformer stating that chevys are built strong and are tough. No one will mess with you if you drive a chevy. The ad also has a dark humor to it when bumblebee picks up the mascot that was hitting him and just throws him away then drives off. Its great because its cool and unrealistic. My observation is that, mixing something that is trendy in society and giving it a dark humorous twist will create a buzz and word of mouth. This is was attracts an audience.

Graphic Design is...
Graphic Design is... an Idea made into a visual with the use of colour, typography, and grid structures.

My Design Process
When first receiving a new assignment, I go over the brief and a lot of ideas will pop into my head. Ill joint them down and scribble some images but then I leave it alone for a day or two and let it sit in the back of my head. When it comes to starting the initial assignment, I start with research and looking for some inspiration by going on google and stumbleupon. Then I create a few thumbnails and jump right into the rough digital. If and when I hit a roadblock, I leave it alone for a bit, try to forget about it. I will go hit the gym, or just go to a bar and ideas will just start coming out of no where. This is where a napkin or a water bottle label becomes very handy. This is the process I go through when I design.

What about me?
My Name is Brittany Dasilva and I am the blogger. I am currently a student of Humber college for the 3 year graphic design program. I have gained experience through my high school education by taking a Co-op course in grade 11, which lead me on this career path. I received a placement at Newbury NG Design firm in Toronto, as a Junior Graphic Designer and Assistant. I gained valuable experience that allowed me to improve my skills and understanding of client’s expectations, advertising, picture modification, and design.
I am able to effectively combine my artistic and creative problem-solving skills to produce designs and advertisement campaigns that meet the client’s specifications. I am able to use Mac OSX to produce: print campaigns, direct mail, logos, corporate branding, poster designs, editorial designs, book designs and web designs. I have created several pieces of material for a variety of companies for different campaigns, some were even published for NOW magazine. I am currently in semester 4 of the program and as an assignment for contemporary design theory, we must create a creative blog. So this is it and I hope you enjoy it.
